What does spam cost me?

Unsolicited commercial email (UCE) costs the sender very little yet consumes time and resources for both Internet Service Providers and their customers. It has been estimated that last year UCE potentially cost American companies $8.9 billion in lost productivity, bandwidth consumption, technical support and other technical resources [Ferris Research, 2003].

MailArmory Secures Innovation Award

July 26, 2002

FORT COLLINS, CO - MailArmory, one of the most comprehensive email filtering services available, won an award for product innovation on Thursday. The IQ (Innovation Quotient) Awards recognize companies for clever, unique and creative new products and services with promising market potential.

MailArmory was selected as a winner of the 2002 IQ Awards for its ability to relieve one of the foremost issues for Internet users by filtering and blocking unsolicited email, commonly known as spam. Jupiter Media Metrix estimates that customers will receive about 206 billion spam messages per year by 2006 at an estimated $1 per email cost to companies. MailArmory filters up to 99.7% of spam destined for a user's email box, nearly eliminating the problem.

MailArmory uses a point-based system to filter spam email. Complex mathematical calculations determine a message's likelihood of being spam and assign a rating to each message. This is compared against individual user settings to determine whether the message should be delivered as normal or flagged as spam. MailArmory keeps unwanted messages from being delivered, decreasing the load on mail servers and allowing end users to concentrate on their work rather than reviewing spam.

Users of the MailArmory system have been thrilled with the service. Lisa Baker of CatSpecialist.com said, "This is just awesome. You are making my life sane again." Even so, the developers of MailArmory are striving to make the service even better. Advancements are in progress for virus filtering, currently scheduled for release in mid-August. Andy Neely, Senior Project Manager for MailArmory, stated, "MailArmory is like having a secretary for your email, screening out the junk and passing along what's important. By removing spam and eradicating viruses before they hit a user's inbox, MailArmory allows people to use email without worrying about what they might be opening."

The Northern Colorado Business Report created the IQ Awards in 2000 to recognize unique and ingenious ideas from companies in the Northern Colorado Region. Companies and organizations competed in seven categories for the 3rd annual Awards. Other winners included Optibrand Ltd. LLC, Atrix Laboratories, Inc., CoCreate Software, Inc., Colorado Customware, Inc., The Mindshare Institute, and Sixth Dimension.
